Programming

In addition to our highly watched newscasts, Hearst Television stations offer viewers some of the most popular network and syndicated shows, and impactful local programming.

Hearst is a major affiliate group of the ABC, NBC, CBS, CW and MyNetworkTV networks, and many of our stations are the local home for syndicated shows such as "Oprah," "Dr. Phil," and the family-friendly "Teen Kids News", which is carried throughout our group.

Our stations also are known destinations for viewing major regional events. WCVB-TV, WBAL-TV and WLKY-TV have paced the field in local viewership of the Boston Marathon, the Preakness and the Kentucky Derby, respectively. KOAT-TV's coverage of Albuquerque's Balloon Festival soars above the competition. Honolulu viewers annually embrace KITV's coverage of the perennial Merrie Monarch Hula Festival. Oklahoma City's KOCO-TV produced a highly-rated special, "Gone Country," celebrating the Country Music Awards; it was syndicated to several other Hearst stations.

We also produce acclaimed local and national public-affairs and interview programs and specials. In Boston, WCVB-TV's award-winning nightly newsmagazine "Chronicle" has been informing New England audiences for more than a quarter century, and is a consistent ratings leader as well as a pioneer in digital high-definition production. "11 TV Hill," at WBAL-TV, Baltimore, and "On Assignment" at WISN-TV, Milwaukee, consistently score leadership ratings and journalism awards.

Hearst earned national awards for "Song for New Orleans" -- a celebration of that city's musical legacy and its recovery - and for "Seven Days that Changed New Orleans" -- an intimate look, narrated by NBC host Chris Matthews, at people affected by Hurricane Katrina as seen through the eyes of the news team at our WDSU-TV, New Orleans. Both specials were aired on all 29 Hearst television stations, and "Song" was aired on the TV One cable network. Proceeds from DVD sales of the specials went to Katrina relief efforts.

WCVB-TV in partnership with the Boston Children's Chorus produces the annual live concert "Raising the Roof: Celebrating Martin Luther King, Jr. in Song." The show has been syndicated to TV stations -- including other Hearst stations -- reaching more than 80% of the country.
